Biography

Filip Eraković is considered one of the most sought-after and most fascinating accordionists of his generation. His versatility is reflected in a wide-ranging repertoire that spans from baroque transcriptions to contemporary works and commissioned compositions. The 2025/2026 concert season features numerous notable projects: among them, a collaboration with the Staatskapelle Dresden under the baton of Jonathan Stockhammer, a cyber-operetta at the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, the revival of Vito Žuraj’s opera Blühen at the Frankfurt Opera with Ensemble Modern, an opera production with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, a new project with Ensemble Catinblack, and several other highlights. Especially noteworthy is a new concert series with his ensemble S201, featuring colorful programs and multiple world premieres by leading young composers. Additionally, performances with Ensemble Modern under Ingo Metzmacher are planned.

His earlier accolades include, among others, a scholarship from the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation(2010), as well as participation in the prestigious Best of NRW concert series (2011–2012) for exceptionally gifted young musicians from North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2012, he made his debut on WDR3 radio with a concert recording from the Apollo Theater Siegen. Solo appearances followed with the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra Camerata di Rimini, and the Northwest German Philharmonic. That same year, he won 2nd Prize at the Accordion Grand Prix in Luxembourg, and in 2014, another 2nd Prize at the “Val Tidone” Competition in Italy.

Eraković has been a guest at numerous festivals, including: Berliner Festspiele, Musica Viva (BR), Beethovenfest Bonn, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Acht Brücken Cologne, Ruhrtriennale, Festival d'Automne à Paris, MiTo-Settembre Musica, Klangspuren Schwaz, Festival für Zeitgenössische Musik Bozen, Young-Nam International Contemporary Festival Daegu, Impuls Graz, Muziekbiennale Niederrhein, NOW! Essen, to name just a few. He is featured on several CD productions – among others, with Ensemble Modern and other renowned ensembles and musicians. His recordings have been released by prestigious labels such as WERGO and ECM Records, showcasing both his artistic versatility and deep commitment to contemporary music. He has performed with ensembles and orchestras such as Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Staatskapelle Dresden, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Duisburg Philharmonic, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Remix Ensemble, Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, and the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra. Concerts have taken him to prominent venues such as: the Berlin Philharmonie, Royal Festival Hall London, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie de Paris, Casa da Música Porto, Teatro degli Arcimboldi, Auditorium Rai Arturo Toscanini, Essen Philharmonie, Beethoven House Bonn, Cologne Opera, Cologne Philharmonie, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Dortmund Opera House, Belgrade Philharmonic Hall, WDR Broadcasting House Cologne, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and Theater Duisburg. He has performed under renowned conductors such as: Vladimir Jurowski, Sir George Benjamin, Eugene Tzigane, Peter Rundel, Brad Lubman, Ingo Metzmacher, Franck Ollu, Clement Power, Jonathan Stockhammer, Johannes Kalitzke, Vimbayi Kaziboni, Bas Wiegers, Enno Poppe, Dirk Kaftan, Gabriel Feltz, Michael Wendeberg, Casper de Roo, and Achim Fiedler.

In addition to classical literature, Filip Eraković is deeply dedicated to contemporary music and the expansion of the accordion repertoire. As a permanent member of Ensemble S201, he actively contributes to the development of new music, innovative concert formats, and multimedia concepts. He collaborates with composers such as Rebecca Saunders, Mark Andre, Georg Friedrich Haas, Enno Poppe, Heiner Goebbels, Gerhard Stäbler, Francesco Filidei, Vito Žuraj, Francesca Verunelli, Gordon Kampe, Miroslav Srnka, Johannes Schöllhorn, Beat Furrer, Farzia Fallah, among many others – resulting in numerous world premieres of solo and ensemble works.

Filip Eraković grew up in a family of musicians and began playing the accordion at the age of nine. By the age of eleven, he was already performing regularly and successfully participating in competitions. Before graduating from the Serbian music high school – under the guidance of Prof. Milan Eraković and Gvozden Eraković – he had won over 30 prizes at national and international competitions. In 2007, he began his diploma studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen with Prof. Mie Miki, where he also completed his master’s degree with distinction. During his studies, he was a scholarship recipient of the Alfred and Cläre Pott Foundation, the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation, the Lions Club Essen, and Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now.

Since 2019 Filip is Docent for Accordion at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal.
